The story of Nine9 drills and cutters
The story of Taiwan-based Nine9 is a remarkable one. It began in 1994 and with the development of special tools, and features the introduction of the NC Spot Drill, the Super Power Drill and Indexable Engraving Tools.

The Nine9 logo was commissioned in 1999. It comes from the Chinese characters meaning “long life and durability” – words which aptly describe all Nine9 tools. 99 is the largest 2 digit number, indicating maximum product endurance.
During 1994 to 1999, Nine9 began by supplying special tools and problem-solving solutions to the domestic market. The multi-functional nature of these tools provided considerable cost and efficiency savings. This proved to be so successful that bulk orders became commonplace. Nine9 tools whilst being “special” in the industry, are standard in their product range. The first products to go into production were Twin Edge Rough Boring Tools. These established Nine9 as a market leader and innovator in the cutting tool field.
From 1999 to 2002, Nine 9 tools were mostly focused on the extended development of their boring tools system: the innovative approach was recognised by the awarding of Patents in the USA and Germany. During this period, Nine9 developed products such as the eccentric mechanism boring tool, a direct adjustment mechanism used frequently on rough boring tools, fine boring tools, cartridge and multi-steps boring tools.
NC Spot DrillIn 2002, the flagship product, the indexable NC SPOT DRILL first went into production. This proved to be the defining moment in Nine9’s development. Nine9 tools were presented to the overseas market at this time, obtaining outstanding results for an ever-growing number of customers: sales have continued to increase rapidly ever since, particularly as a result of the NC Spot Drill’s remarkably long tool life.
From 2002 to 2006, the NC Spot Drill obtained further patents from Taiwan, Japan, Germany and the USA. In 2006, it was presented with the silver medal of INPEX (The Invention & New Product Exposition) in Pittsburgh, PA USA; this award was further recognition of Nine9’s ongoing achievement, in what was a very high quality and competitive field.
Super Power DrillIn 2006, the 10xD Super Power Drill went into full production. This reinforced Nine9’s position as a market leader, which was recognized by the award of German patent. Nine9 Super Power Drill, featuring an indexable center pilot insert design, help to achieve cost savings and good performance, making for deep hole drilling possible.
Also in 2006, Nine9 developed Quick-Change Boring Tools which proved to be perfect for economically making small holes combining high speed cutting with ease of use. All boring head shanks and boring bars are interchangeable and can be quickly replaced.
Indexable Engraving ToolsIn 2007, another key product range of Indexable Engraving Tools were first produced. As with the NC Spot Drill, it is an innovative new concept tool. This is now the fasted selling product range as a result of excellent performance and efficiency savings.
Other Nine9 products include:-3xD Super Drill - the smallest indexable drill from 10mm, with patented insert to ensure long tool life and high performance.
5xD~10xD Super Power Drill - with patented center pilot insert which aids accurate and steady deep hole drilling.
EMB Boring Tools – the easy handling eccentric mechanism boring tool, for fine and rough boring operations. Ideal for small hole making.
